Mobile Film Ideas

We where given the task of creating films that have been shot entirely using mobile phones that where around a few minutes long. The work was to be conducted in groups of three and was meant to have a rough ‘spontaneous, film anywhere’ feel to it. The first idea that we came up with was to do a cover of the following film:

Mobile Films

Mobile films have com about due to the rise in camera phones and especially smartphones, which allows the user to shoot  a film and then upload it to multiple platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. They have become popular due to their ease of use, they are convenient and are always on you (everybody has a phone these days). Sharing and Crowdsourcing

Sharing user created content on the internet is not a new concept, but is one that has become increasingly accessible to people with the rise of YouTube and smartphones that can record video and upload it to the internet. But with this amount of sharing about people have to consider when to draw the line what to post on the internet and what is considered too personal. In 2009 a user on YouTube called cogdog released a video calling for people to post up videos of their experience of sharing content online. The clips where then edited together and shown at the Open Education Conference in Vancouver.

Copyright Laws

Copyright laws have been put in place to help protect artists who create content and want to protect it from being shared without the artists permission. Most content that is released (Dvds, CDs, iTunes download) is copyright protected to help protect the artists work. These laws are adequate for protecting artists work but they do not allow for the remix culture that is springing up on the internet. The remix culture on YouTube consists of people taking video clips from YouTube and then re-editing the video into a new piece of work. A good example of this is cassetteboy.

SUBBS (Salford University Beats and Bass Society)

The Salford University Beast and Bass Society, is a group that I helped to set up and organize during the middle of the last academic year. The society is aimed at DJs and producers of all skill level to come and learn how to DJ and produce music. The society meets every week at Bar Yours, Monday 5-7pm, where CD and vinyl decks are provided and any members can bring down their music and have a mix or learn how to mix. During the last meeting about 25 people turned up with everybody willing to learn the basic. As most of the people where novices we started people off by learning how to beat match two different tracks and then fade from one to the other. Everybody who attend the meeting had a go on the decks, with some people having never used them before. Continue reading
